Cancer Hero

David Rakoff  November 27, 1964 – August 9, 2012

Every time someone dies from this disease, my heart breaks a little bit more.  I saw this interview weeks after I was diagnosed myself.   So many people gave me the "advice" to stay positive and keep up my great attitude.  Hearing someone having gone through cancer and going through treatment again say, "Hey, it's okay if you feel lousy.  You are not beholden to anyone to be cheery."  I felt so much better.  If I felt lousy one day, then it wasn't because I failed somehow.  It was just because I was going through something shitty and deserved to be true to my emotions.

"You can be the worst bastard on the ward and you will not die at a greater rate than the other people. People will simply be gladder when you do."

  1. I agree, it makes me sad when I hear news that someone has passed or even been diagnosed. I want to ask you, Mama MB has lost her hair completely now, is there anything cooler she can wear? the wigs and scarves she has seem to make her hot. Hit me of the facebook or my blog thanks!

    1. I make awesome lightweight 100% cotton caps that are both washable and reversible: http://chemocapmaker.tumblr.com/ Miss Lara never needed my wares, but Nikki and many others will attest to their comfy-ness. :)
